Hooray for warmer weather

What a difference a few degrees makes! Spring has sprung here at SRS Motorsports....The weather finally broke about a week ago. Hence my lack of posting. You see, warm weather gets folks to thinkin about the ride. That means we get busy! It's almost comical how there is suddenly just a switch that flips and BOOM...open season. Our service department fills up with inspections, new batteries and the inevitable carb cleans necessary thanks to the poor quality of today's fuels. The parts department receives more and more boxes of bits and pieces that folks need to get their ride in tip top shape for the season and the sales department is suddenly ransacked with customers looking for the latest and greatest.
I have to say that my favorite customer is the full on "Squid" newbie. They come in all shapes, sizes, genders and level of abilities. Most of the time, these folks are on the right path. However, on occasion, there are those that make you wonder just what in the world they are thinking. haha In my 20 plus years in this business, I've put many a butt on many a seat. It's always a great feeling seeing someone ride off on their new toy. Not because I get paid (although..hey, it's my job), but because I know that these folks are gonna go make some great memories and have some great stories to tell, all because of that new ride they just purchased. It's truly an excellent feeling.
SO, spring gives me the opportunity to experience that in great succession. Hey, getting paid for it doesn't suck, but the true reward comes from helping people to get that same rush and feeling I've been getting for years from motorcycles. Ride safe! Catch you next time!

Oh the weather out side is CRAPTASTIC

Hello all.....
Well, it's a messy, messy day in Greensboro, NC. Every known form of precipitation is falling from the sky and the roads are just a mess. SO, what do we do in a Power Sports shop on days like today? Well, we do reports, catch up on e-mails, check in with our manufacturers to make sure we are up to date on everything and we may do some training and that sort of thing. After that long and torturous hour and a half, we go outside and PLAY!!! hahah  Ok, we don't really. IF, (and it's a big if) we actually put any vehicles out front for display in messy weather, you will see the occasional (more frequent than I care to admit) doughnut or power slide. The reason we got in to this business is because we are enthusiast first. So it's Nye impossible to resist a slick surface on an ATV or in a side by side. C'mon, you know what I'm talkin about! Right?! NO, sadly the first part is true. Even with several inches of inviting snow on the ground, we come in and make sure the business is ship shape and ready to best serve our customers. Especially this time of year here in the South. This type of weather is freakish. So being this close to the "season" kicking off, it really is an opportunity to make sure all our ducks are in a row and that we are ready for the initial rush of Spring. SOOOO, that being said, I guess I had better get back to it. That Honda order and Kawasaki order aren't going to do themselves. If you are lucky enough to be out of work today, I hope you are staying warm and dry. If you do venture out, come on by and see us. I'm sure we can find something for you to do!

Everyday is Christmas

So today we received several new toys at SRS Motorsports. A new Honda NC700X adventure bike and a couple of cruisers that have been around for a while, but are very impressive none the less. It's always fun to uncrate a brand new machine. Maybe it's a new color or even a whole new machine for that year. Either way, it's like Christmas everyday.
The new Honda NC700X is an awesome ride. The one that came in today is the DCT Transmission version. That's Dual Clutch Transmission for those of you just tuning in. It's a very cool automatic transmission that never fails to amaze me. Smooth delivery of power and an easy and intuitive set of controls, make it a great bike for newbies and road hardened pros alike. This particular bike has great ground clearance but maintains a lower seat height than say a KLR or any BMW or KTM adventure bike and it comes in well under 10K, making it very very affordable. The 700 cc parallel twin puts down great power and is surprisingly quick through the DCT system. It's no quarter mile eating rocket, but from a commuting and traffic stand point, it's beyond enough to do the job. In fact, I wouldn't be afraid to take a prolonged trip on one of these machines. Honda makes that easy with a wide variety of accessories like a trunk and saddle bag set up that is color matched and even touring windshields and bar mount goodies like a GPS holder.
It's a cool looking machine. Where the fuel tank usually resides, is actually sizeable storage compartment. big enough for your helmet or your lunch. the rear seat pillion actually lifts to reveal the fuel filler area. It's a pretty neat feature that really shows Honda's commitment to mass centralization and the low CG that it affords. The bike stands easy and is nimble through corners thanks to having that fuel tank under the center of the seat. All of the weight is below the rider's hips and it really is noticeable right from the moment you tip the bike off of it's side stand. I think Honda has really hit a homerun with the CTX and DCT combo. If the automatic isn't your cup of tea, that's ok. Honda builds them all in a 6 speed manual as well. Admittedly, I feel foolish every time I climb aboard one of these DCT machines, because I instinctually reach for the clutch lever and the shifter on the left foot only to find myself grasping at air and stomping at nothing. However, you quickly get use to the differences and soon realize just how much time you actually spend shifting up and down on a traditionally configured machine. The DCT is a gas saver too! SO, while I'm a purist at heart, I have to admit, that the DCT system is very appealing for a commuter set up. There is nothing you don't need to just go. It's easy and fun and it will save you money. Not much more to be said about it than that.
Come on by and check it out. We have a full representation of the CTX and NCX machines on the floor and are happy to let you throw a leg over and check them out! Thanks all for reading the blog. Hope you enjoyed it!
